Celebrate Vail's 50th Anniversary

Colorado is a state with a rich history, full of mining and ranching, desperation and glory. Vail is no different. Colorado just recently celebrated its 140th anniversary, and Vail also has something to celebrate: August 23rd marks the towns’ 50th anniversary. This is a momentous occasion for us all, as Vail holds a special place in all our hearts, whether you live here, or wish you lived here. Today, we’ll look at the history of Vail, as well as give you an overview of the celebration events taking place on the 23rd.

50 Years: Skiing and Mountain Living

The Town of Vail was incorporated in 19676 after four years of construction to create the ski resort. The resort was the result of a collaboration between Pete Seibert, Bill “Sarge” Brown, and Bob Parker. These three men had trained in the Vail backcountry with the 10th Mountain Division during WWII. They were struck with the beauty of the mountain, and a vision for a mountain skiing community was born. This vision became a reality, and today, Vail is Colorado’s largest ski resort, at 5,289 acres of slopes, 33 lifts, and 193 runs. Vail is loved by many people all over the world and in Colorado.
