Tee Off for an Extraordinary Vail Golf Experience

Spring has hit the mountains and it will soon be time to tee off. Golf in the Rocky Mountains is an extraordinary experience for several reasons: the unforgettable scenery of the local courses and the extra distance you get on the ball because of the altitude and the lack of humidity.

There are plenty of municipal and public courses in and around Vail. Vail Golf Course which is managed by the Vail Recreational District is 7,024 yards and a par 71 course. Built in 1962 Vail Golf Course is the oldest course in the Vail Valley. Renovated in 2011 this course has been named in the “Top 100 Resort Courses” by Golf Digest. Nestled between the peaks of the White River National Park’s Gore Mountain Range and hugged by the Gore Creek – the fairways of this course are a challenge to any skill level and make for a scenic day of golf.

Beaver Creek’s Golf Course, designed by noted architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., has a stunning backdrop with long, narrow fairways that test even the most seasoned golfer. EagleVail Golf Club located minutes from the resorts boasts 6,836 yards and some of the highest quality yet most affordable golf in the Vail area. Eagle Ranch Golf Club is another public course and was named as the “Best Mountain Course in Colorado for under a $100 green fee” by Colorado Avid Golfer Magazine. This Arnold Palmer designed course sits at an elevation of 6,600 feet; the fairways are long and open with subtle changes to make hitting the ball that extra distance the focus of the golf game. Some of the courses in Vail and Beaver Creek restrict access to only allow guests of the resorts during a portion of their season.

If you are a local or plan to play high elevation golf regularly consider a membership to the Club at Cordillera. The club has three unique courses – the Valley, Mountain and Summit. Each course was designed by a renowned architect that created the course to best utilize the natural landscape to provide a challenging game as well as stunning views and vistas.

Stay and Play Packages

Opting for a golf vacation in the Vail Valley allows you the opportunity to enjoy a stay and play package at one of the many area resorts. Vail and Beaver Creek Resorts offer discounted rates on rooms as well as exclusive access to Red Sky Golf Club and other participating golf courses. The EagleVail Golf Club has a stay and play package with the Westin Riverfront in Beaver Creek. Enjoy a round of golf with up to four players, complimentary parking and a welcome amenity when you book a room at the Westin. Eagle Ranch Golf Club partners with both the AmericInn of Eagle and Vail Marriott Resort with Stay and Play discounts.

The weather and seasonality can cause changes to the opening dates of the courses as well as what packages participating hotels and resorts offer. When you are planning your Vail Golf vacation, make sure that you ask about what specials are available and if any restrictions apply.
