There are many amazing things to do in Vail, Colorado. If you like to hike, there are countless trails. Want to bike? Cyclists love the many trails and road rides in the area. There’s so much to do in the area, it’s helpful to narrow it down to a manageable list. IN today’s post, we’re going to discuss the top 10 things to do in Vail in the spring and summer (because, in the winter, Vail Mountain dominates the ranking). This list is a mix of both Yelp, TripAdvisor, and a few of our favorites.
1. Betty Ford Alpine Gardens
You wouldn’t think that a garden would be a favorite destination in Colorado, but the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens are truly special. Internationally acclaimed for their conservation, education, and alpine horticulture, the gardens are well-loved by visitors. With 4.5 stars with both TripAdvisor and, Yelp, visitors can’t say enough about visiting this unique botanic garden.
2. Booth Falls Trail
This strenuous hike is well-worth the effort. With a round-trip distance of 8.7 miles, Booth Falls Trail isn’t for the faint of heart. But, the views will take your breath away. Along the way, you’ll pass through green meadows, a shimmering aspen field, a thick spruce forest, and eventually – you’ll come to find a stunning mountain lake. You’ll be immersed in the beauty of Colorado, and can finish off the day with a beer in a brewery in Vail!
3. River Rafting and Tubing
One of the most beloved summer activities in Vail is river rafting and tubing. There are countless companies that you can either rent tubes, or book a rafting trip with in the area. Book a rafting trip with Arkansas Valley Adventures or Timberline Tours, or rent tubes from Turtle Tubing. Nothing beats coasting down the Colorado River on a tube or raft, with the hot sun above you!
4. Gourmet Food Tours
Listed as the second most popular thing to do in Vail on Yelp, Vail Valley Food Tours offers a truly unique experience for visitors. Have you ever walked around town, struggling to decide which one of the restaurants to try? Now, you don’t have to worry about choosing: You can take a food tour, and try a bite to eat at five different restaurants!
5. Go to a Farmer’s Market

6. Grab a Drink with the Locals
Nothing beats grabbing a drink after a long day enjoying the outdoors around Vail. There are many local favorites. Head to Kelly Liken for unique drinks, head to The George to find the true locals, or Blu’s Restaurant, where you can find an extensive, delicious wine list.
7. Walk around Vail Village
Vail Village is extremely unique. Our European-style village is quaint, and full of fun restaurants, bars, and shops. Simply strolling around at any point during the day is a good time. The Village is always buzzing with activity, be it winter, fall, spring, or summer. It’s a great place to head to if you want to have some fun, but aren’t sure exactly what you want to do, which is why it made it onto our list of the top 10 things to do in Vail.
8. Go Horseback Riding
Colorado is, at its heart, a cowboy state. We love our horses, rodeos, ranches, and western heritage. One of the best ways to tap into this rich history is to go horseback riding! You’ll see some beautiful countryside, and you won’t have to take a single step. Bearcat Stables is the best place to book your ride – you can do short or long trips.
9. See the Valley from a Hot Air Balloon
If you want some adventure, but don’t want anything too scary, go on a hot air balloon trip. It’s a great way to see the valley, and it will be an experience you’ll never forget.
