Do you have weekend plans? If you don’t, then you now have a great plan. If you already had plans – well, you should probably scrap them and do this instead. This weekend is the last of the events of the 35th Annual Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships in Vail, Colorado. They began on Monday, and tonight and Saturday are your last chance to catch a look at the pros competing for a top spot. Here’s an overview of the events, including which ones you need to see, as well as some information about the after-parties!
About the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships
The National Snowboarding Championships began in 1982 at a small mountain in Vermont called Suicide Six. Paul Graves, Jake Burton, and Doug Bouton were a few of the competitors. The event has grown immensely over the years. Now, greats such as Shaun White, Arielle Gold, Kelly Clark, Danny Davis, and many more, compete for the top title. The event has been based in Vail since 2013, and is well-loved by locals and visitors alike!
Events to Watch
Slopestyle Final After Party: The women’s and men’s slopestyle finals are taking place this morning. If you can’t make it to this event, you can still get in on the fun at the free live concert. Gramatik and Lizzo are playing form 6-9:30pm at Solaris Concert Stage. Afterward, you can join in on the Pacifico After Party – which starts at 8:30pm at BOL, Solaris.
Halfpipe Finals: Don’t miss the big event Saturday, March 4th. The women’s and men’s halfpipe finals are sure to be exciting. Here’s when you need to be there to watc:
- Women’s Halfpipe Finals: Practice at 10am, competition at 11:10am.
- Men’s Halfpipe Finals: Practice at 12:45, competition at 2pm.
After the event, there are events to enjoy. Get an autograph from the Burton Team (located in the Sponsor Village at Golden Peak), or head to the free live concert at 9:30pm at the Solaris Concert Stage (which features Keys and Krates, Xavier Omär, and Skratch Bastid). Also plan on attending the US Open Closing Party at the Dobson Ice Arena, featuring Four Color Zack, Air Credits, and D.R.AM, wich starts at 9:30pm, but goes to 1am!

Make a Trip Out of It: Stay in Vail, Colorado
There are many great hotels, condos, and other lodging in Vail. Plan on staying the night so you can get up on Sunday and enjoy the area! There are some great restaurants as well, so you can grab a delicious breakfast before heading home to start the week.
